Getting Java

NetBeans is installed in the HCC library and most lab classrooms, so you can work on campus until you are finished setting up at home.  You should be able to set up NetBeans in Windows, MacOS, or Linux.

Due to licensing issues, currently the simplest approach seems to be the Friends of Apache Netbeans all-in-one installer that gets you the most recent version of the Netbeans IDE and includes the underlying version of the Java Development Kit. They have Windows, MacOS, and Linux versions. The classroom does not have the most recent version, but most of what we use will look the same.

Then go through the process of creating a Netbeans project. If at this point it asks to install any extra plugins or packages, do so.
