Getting Java
NetBeans is installed in the HCC library and most lab classrooms, so you
can work on campus until you are finished setting up at home. You
should be able to set up NetBeans in Windows, MacOS, or Linux.
Due to licensing issues, currently the simplest approach seems to be this all-in-one installer that gets you the most recent version of Netbeans and includes the JDK.
The classroom does not have the most recent version, but most of what we use will look the same.
To more closely match what is in classroom, you would need to get both the JDK and Apache Netbeans 17.
If you are going this route and have trouble, you can also go to previous releases archive and try version 13; if you are having trouble on a mac, try version 12.2.
But you can just go with the all-in-one instead.
Then go through the process of creating a Netbeans project. If at this point it
asks to install any extra plugins or packages, do so.
