Review Questions

This is not work to be turned in for a grade.  They are however very similar to the questions on the Comprehension Quiz.

The following are questions to help you check whether you understood the reading and lecture.  You may want to have these on hand while you read/watch the lecture and check them off as you go.  If you get to the end with any not checked off, you probably need to go back over the reading or lecture.

In order to do well going forward in this class, you should be able to answer them all in your own words. It may help to imagine that you are explaining the concept to a child or someone  who knows little about computers.

1. What is hardware?
2. What is software?
3. What is a network?
4. What is a single purpose computing machine?  What is an advantage these have over general purpose?
5. What is a general purpose computing machine?  What is an advantage these have over single purpose?
6. What is the difference between instructions and data?
7. In a computer, what is the processor for?  What is the storage for?
8. What advantages were given by integrated circuits over previous ways of building computers?
9. What does Moore's law say?  What do people think it says?
