SOFTWARE PROJECT

Answer the following in a Word document (unless an individual problem specifies otherwise) and attach the Word document to your submission in Blackboard.

1. Do both of the following worksheets.  You can print, fill them out (pencil is your friend) and then scan or take a (clear!!!) picture and turn them in as an image file, or if you would rather, you can re-create them using excel or a word table and fill them in that way, then turn that file in. Remember that all files need to be attached to the SAME submission in blackboard.

2. Answer one of the following:

• We know that parallel processing is good for speeding up running multiple programs on the same computer. Under what circumstances can we NOT do multiple programs (just) by parallel processing? What do we do instead? Why is this slower?
• Why do people tell you that if your computer is slow you need more RAM? Describe under what circumstances and why this might help.

3. Your company is having some programs written and your manager doesn't know anything about how programs are created. Write up an explanation for your manager that includes what compilers and interpreters do, the advantages of each, and what kinds of situations each should be used for so that your manager can make a good decision.

4. Answer one of the following

• A trojan on your computer would allow someone to look through your files for information. Why would most wrongdoers prefer to take a different approach? Explain another type of malware they could use to achieve the same goal.
• Once a virus gets onto your computer, explain what it does, and why. Also describe how worms work.
